 2017 Preview 


       Geneva County completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Geneva County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region two with a 3-3 region record.

       Since 2010, Geneva County has gone a combined 39-36. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva County has managed to compile a record of 139-132. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 2A and 161st in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Jim Bob Striplin who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Geneva County. The Bulldogs saw improvement from a 2-7 record the season before coach Striplin arrived. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Striplin.

       Coach Striplin's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 35-39 (47.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Striplin's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Geneva County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region two during the 2017 season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Geneva County missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017.

       The Bulldogs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Houston Academy on Friday, August 25 at Dixie Howell Stadium. Last year the Houston Academy Raiders finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 3A region two.

       Geneva County and Houston Academy have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 4-8-0 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2016 with Houston Academy winning by a score of 28-19.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
